FORSKNING
Hur celler försvarar sig mot toxiska metaller
Vårt övergripande forskningsintresse är att förstå hur celler känner av närvaron av giftiga metaller i sin omgivning samt vilka mekanismer de aktiverar för att förvärva tolerans (motståndskraft). Vi fokuserar framförallt på de molekylära processer som styr signalöverföring och genuttryck i cellens försvar mot olika metaller samt på hur system som transporterar metaller över cellmembran regleras. För att förstå varför metaller är giftiga, studerar vi hur enskilda proteiner och cellulära processer påverkas under metallexponering.

MERITER
Markus Tamas studerade biokemi och molekylärbiologi vid universiteten i Lund och Liège (Belgien), och spenderade ett år som research scholar vid Public Health Research Insititute i New York (USA). Han disputerade 1999 vid Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgien) och erhöll en forskarassistenttjänst från Vetenskapsrådet 2003. Markus är professor i eukaryot mikrobiologi sedan 2010.
