Forskningsintressen Min forskning hittills har varit inriktad mot frågor som handlar om att beskriva, förstå och förklara skillnader i kunskaper, färdigheter, attityder och intressen, främst med hjälp av storskaliga undersökningar av utbildningssystems resultat och funktion. Sedan millenniets början har intresset varit särskilt fokuserat på elevers läsfärdigheter och de internationella studier av "reading literacy" som Sverige har deltagit i. Analysarbetet handlar främst om att identifi era och problematisera faktorer inom och utom utbildningssystemet, som inverkar på individers eller gruppers utbildningsresultat. Att undersöka förändringar i läsfärdigheter över tid, liksom att jämföra förändringarna med andra länder tillhör pågående projekt. Till forskningsintresset hör också de medföljande metodologiska utmaningarna, en multivariat ansats, problemområdets flernivåkaraktär (individ, skola, samhälle) och begreppsvaliditet.

QRM är en VR finansierad nationell metodforskarskola för både doktorander och disputerade forskare. QRM drivs samarbete med kollegor i FUR-gruppen och kollegor vid Umeå Universitet, med mig som koordinator.
