Electron microscopy prices

At the CCI we offer full service for electron microscopy, from sample preparation, to imaging and image analysis. A trained user has access to the microscope, which is charged by the hour, at any time. Here you find the microscope fees and the prices for training, sample preparation and assistance.

Electron microscopes

TEM FEI Talos
Academia: 545 SEK/h
Industry: 1090 SEK/h

SEM Zeiss Gemini 450
Academia: 485 SEK/h
Industry: 970 SEK/h

  • During off-hours (between 19:00 and 8:00) the prices are reduced by 50 %.
  • 24 hours cancellation notice is required to avoid charges. We have this to avoid unnecessary over-booking of the instruments.
  • For external users, the fees are higher in order to cover the "overhead" cost for rent, administration etc. and VAT. The price may also vary depending on the time and assistance requested.

Electron microscopy training

The electron microscopes currently available at the facility are ThermoFisher Talos L120C and Zeiss Gemini 450 II. The trainings on both instruments are available at 3 levels, depending on how much the microscope will be used and the complexity of the project.

Please contact the staff, preferably using cci@gu.se, for more information about prices and to schedule the training sessions.

This first basic training consists of a three-hour session, which has to be attended by all users. It covers the basics of theory and microscope operation necessary for the specific project.

  • Fixed charge of 1650 kr for staff time + microscope time

An additional session of up to two hours with the aim for the user to gain indepth understanding of the theory, become comfortable with optimisation of settings and handling the hardware too allow a higher degree of independence. Some basic troubleshooting is also covered. Recommended for frequent users.

  • Fixed charge of 1100kr for staff time + microscope time

Application of specific modules, for users who have already reached Level 2 access. This training is charged per hour of staff and equipment time and is designed individually according to the user's needs. The modules include Cryo-EM (including EPU software and cryo-holder training), MAPS and Tomography on the TEM as well as Atlas 5, CAT and VP on the SEM.

  • Charged by hour

Staff assistance

Technical support is included to a limit and we will not charge anything if you come to try something or to ask for advice. However, more extensive assistance during longer times or new/repeated training will be charged by the hour in addition to the microscope fee.
