Axel Adler Scholarship

Axel Adler Scholarship is awarded for programme studies at the University of Gothenburg where the language of instruction is English. The scholarship covers the tuition fee and is awarded students at undergraduate and graduate level. Axel Adler Scholarship is primarily awarded based on the applicant's study qualifications and is funded by Adlerbertska Scholarship Foundation and Adlerbertska Grant Foundation and the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR).

Requirements

To be eligible for Axel Adler Scholarship:

  • You are considered to be a fee-paying student.
  • You have applied and been admitted to a full-time Master- or Bachelor programme (for Bachelor Programme only Software Engineering and International Relations) at the University of Gothenburg as your first priority in the international admission round at universityadmissions.se.
  • You applied for a campus-based programme.
  • You have submitted your application for studies by 17 January 2022 through universityadmissions.se.
  • You have paid the application fee and documented your eligibility for studies by 1 February 2022 through universityadmissions.se.

 

Application

Eligible students (students who fulfil the requirements mentioned) will receive an email with application instructions by 8 February 2022. If you are an eligible student and have not received an email by this date, please let us know by sending a mail to scholarships@gu.se.

The invitation to apply for Axel Adler Scholarship will be sent to the email address you have registered at universityadmissions.se.

CV and Letter of Motivation

When applying for Axel Adler Scholarship you shall include a CV and a Letter of Motivation as written text, these are used for the selection of scholars. In the motivational letter you have the possibility to highlight merits in your CV or merits which isn’t stated in your CV. The CV and motivational letter should be enclosed as text in the application form. It is not possible to attach any other form of documentation to your scholarship application.

 

Selection process

Academic staff make the assessment and ranking, based on the CV and Motivation letter in your scholarship application. The assessment is made in collaboration with the assessment of your application to the study programme, in order to assess your suitability for the programme as well as your commitment and desire to study. 

Our ambition is to award around 60 scholarships total, that is, one for each Master programme, with the exception of the University of Gothenburg's Master of Fine Arts programmes and Applied and Performing Arts programmes.

The scholarships will be distributed as followed:

  • The largest group will be scholarship applicants admitted to one of the Master of Arts or Master of Science programmes at the University of Gothenburg; a scholarship offer will be made for each programme.
  • A total of four scholarship offers will be made to scholarship applicants accepted to any of the University of Gothenburg's Master of Fine Arts programmes or Applied and Performing Arts programmes.
  • One scholarship will be awarded to a student admitted to the Bachelor’s programme in Software Engineering and Management and one scholarship will be awarded to a student

Axel Adler Scholarship for Sustainability

Within Axel Adler Scholarship, the University of Gothenburg wants to increase the integration of sustainable development in education. To reach the vision of sustainable development and a sustainable study and work life, the University of Gothenburg will be awarding a minimum of two students Axel Adler Scholarship for Sustainability in 2022. The scholarship will be awarded to students applying for a sustainability focused programme.  If you apply for a sustainability focused programme, you also have the possibility to apply for Axel Adler Scholarship for Sustainability but you can only be awarded one of the two scholarships.

To be eligible for Axel Adler Scholarship for Sustainability you need to meet the requirements for Axel Adler Scholarship and the special requirements for Axel Adler scholarship for Sustainability, which are:

  • You have applied for a sustainability focused programme.
    Full list of sustainability focused programmes
  • You have motivated in your scholarship application how you have and/or are planning to focus your studies within the sustainability field.

Announcement

Scholarship offers for Master and Bachelor programmes have been sent out on April 7th, 8th and 13th to the students offered the Axel Adler Scholarship 2022 and the Axel Adler Scholarship for Sustainability 2022.

The students who are not offered a scholarship have also been informed via email.

Please note! The students that receive a scholarship offer must reply within 7 days if they accept the scholarship or not. Scholarship decisions will be sent out promptly.

Scholarships cover the tuition fee of the study programme you are admitted to. It is a tuition fee waiver only; no additional financial support for living expenses or travel grants is provided.

If you have applied for a sustainability focused programme as your first choice, and meet the general requirements for Axel Adler Scholarship, you can be awarded Axel Adler Scholarship for Sustainability. The list of sustainability focused programmes at the University of Gothenburg is:

  • Atmosphere, Climate, and Ecosystems, Master’s Programme
  • Ecotoxicology, Master’s Programme

Please note:

Only students at sustainability focused programmes can be awarded Axel Adler Scholarship for Sustainability. Students at sustainability related programmes cannot be awarded the scholarship.

Axel Adler Scholarship for sustainability does not apply to the Education for Sustainable Development Programme, because it is not a campus-based programme.

No, you are not eligible for Axel Adler Scholarships if you choose to study an online programme. The scholarships are for campus-based programmes only.

NOTE! You can still be eligible for the scholarship if a programme partly has studies abroad or is forced to switch to distance learning studies due to circumstances like the pandemic.

The foundations will make the payment to the University of Gothenburg for your tuition-fee. The scholar does not need to act in this matter.

Late applications will not be considered.

Please note that it is not possible to combine the Axel Adler Scholarship with any another scholarship covering the tuition fee.

If you are offered other scholarships, such as from the Swedish Institute, the Richard C. Malmsten Memorial Foundation Scholarship, Volvo Group or a scholarship from your home country, and you decide to accept that scholarship, your application for the Axel Adler Scholarship will be disregarded.

Yes, you can apply for the SI Scholarships. The Swedish Institute (SI), a government agency, administers over 500 scholarships each year for students and researchers coming to Sweden. SI Scholarships at the Swedish Institute website

Are you a citizen of the People’s Republic of China or the Republic of India and are required to pay a tuition fee for education in Sweden? Then you have the opportunity to apply for the Volvo Group scholarships.

If you have been admitted to a master programme at the School of Business, Economics and Law and are required to pay a tuition fee for education in Sweden, you can apply to the Richard C. Malmsten Memorial Foundation Scholarship.

To keep your scholarship, you must complete at least 75% of the semester’s credits. There are regular follow ups conducted.  If you are having problems passing courses, please contact your Department and notify us at: scholarships@gu.se.

The same deferment rules for admissions are applied for Axel Adler scholarship.

If your fee status changes during your studies, you must notify us at: scholarships@gu.se.

 

When your study break is approved by your Department and registered in the local study administration system (Ladok), contact us and we will make sure that the scholarship is transferred to the upcoming semesters when you return from your study break.
