The course gives in-depth knowledge of how history, politics, economics, religion and migration can influence language planning, language policies and language use in a multilingual context.
Kursen ger en fördjupning i hur historia, politik, ekonomi, religion och migration kan påverka språkplanering, språkpolitik och språkanvändning i en flerspråkig kontext.
Om utbildningen
The course contains different linguistic perspectives, with a focus on contact linguistics and sociolinguistic issues in African countries. The course gives in-depth knowledge of how history, politics, economics, religion and migration can influence language planning, language policies and language use in a multilingual context. By discussing language status connected to aspects of power and identity, the course highlights how social structures are created and strengthened, and provides an understanding of how speakers of minority languages are influenced both as a group and as individuals. The course problematises and thereby raises awareness in questions that concern economic, cultural and political development. The themes of the course are highlighted through examples from research in contact linguistics in African countries and through research results from the field of linguistic landscapes.

Förkunskapskrav
För tillträde till kursen krävs godkänd på kursen AF1100, Språk och samhälle i Afrika (7,5 hp), eller motsvarande. Undantag ges från kravet på svenska för grundläggande behörighet
