Research

At Tjärnö Marine Laboratory, research and innovation projects are conducted within a series of marine areas. The research spans from basic issues as understanding functions in the sea to more applied topics as coastal zone management, monitoring and aquaculture.

About 50 scientists are active at the Tjärnö Laboratory year round. Evolution and speciation, restoration of cold water coral reefs and development of Swedish macroalgae cultivation are examples of on-going projects. Guest researchers from all over the world also visit the station to work in laboratories and in the field.
