Knowledge Resources and Heterogeneity of Entrants within and across Industries

Invited Session: Tuesday 11th June, 15:00-16:00

Theme

This session builds upon a forthcoming (January 2024) special issue of Industrial and Corporate Change edited by Gino Cattani (New York University), Roberto Fontana (University of Pavia & ICRIOS-Bocconi University), and Franco Malerba (Bocconi University), which is dedicated to the analysis of the role of pre-entry experience and the knowledge context of origin of entrants within and across industries. This invited session will first introduce the objectives and research contained in this ICC special issue. We will then host two presentations selected among the contributors to the SI, followed by comments by two scholars, who are knowledgeable about the topic but did not contribute to the SI. The main objective is to highlight and discuss the relevance of this topic for empirical studies of innovation and industrial dynamics within the Schumpeterian framework as well as to stimulate the scientific debate.
