Teachers in the marketization of education

In Kenya and several other countries in the global South a for-profit private education market has been growing in recent years, where private schools offer relatively low-fee education to low-income families. The role in education systems, performance, and equality of these so called Low-Fee Private Schools (LFPSs) are subjects of both political and academic debate. There is in these debates little focus on teachers, however –as professionals and as people. This project aims to increase our understanding of teachers and the marketization of education, by talking to teachers and their unions about teachers’ needs and agency in relation to the phenomenon of LFPSs.
