Our research
The research conducted at the QoG Institute primarily focuses on the theoretical and empirical problem of how high-quality political institutions can be created and maintained. We also study the effects of the quality of governance in a number of different policy areas, such as health, the environment, social policy, and poverty.
The main purpose of our research is to answer the question of how we can create and maintain high-quality public institutions, as well as to study the effects of governance quality on a range of political areas such as health, the environment, social welfare, and poverty. We strive for scientific diversity and therefore approach these issues from multiple theoretical, empirical, and methodological perspectives.
Our researchers bring a wide range of knowledge and experience across multiple fields. Our areas of expertise include for instance:
- Bureaucracy
- Comparative methods
- Democracy
- Development, foreign aid and redistribution
- Environment
- Gender
- History and corruption/quality of government
- International institutions
- Political parties and corruption
- State capacity
- Theory and concepts
- Transparency and accountability
- Welfare
Our research has had an international focus from the very beginning. We participate in several international research projects and are an active partner in international networks dealing with corruption research and anti-corruption efforts.
Researchers
The QoG research team consists of about 30-40 researchers that all do research on the Quality of Government and related subjects.
Research projects
Our researchers are actively engaged in a wide range of projects across various fields. You can explore these initiatives in the QoG Institute's project database. Some of our projects are listed on the Department of Political Science's project pages.
Publications
Our researchers actively publish their research in recognized peer-reviewed journals. We also have our own working paper series. On this page, you find links to these and other types of publications by our researchers.
We want to make our research accessible to everyone. That’s why our researchers share their findings through popular science articles, podcasts, and panel discussions. In our media archive, you can explore a selection of their contributions in different channels.
We also have our own Podcast: The QoG Podcast. Making sense of politics and governments all over the world, in which we discuss issues of political science in conversations with well-known experts to try to make sense of politics and governments all over the world.
