Admissions

Doctoral students in the Department of Marine Sciences are mostly funded by external grants, and the number of doctoral students therefore depends on the number and kind of research grants in the Department. The Department therefore has no fixed dates for calls for doctoral students.

Calls for doctoral students

All calls for doctoral student positions are published on the University’s web page for Vacant positions, and are also announced via the Department’s news and social media.

General requirements

To be eligible to do doctoral studies at the University of Gothenburg, you must satisfy both general and special entry requirements.

To meet the general requirements for admission to third-cycle education, applicants must have:

  • been awarded a second-cycle degree, or
  • completed course requirements for at least 240 higher education credits, including 60 HEC awarded in the second cycle, or
  • acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.

Special requirements

Special entry requirements are specified in each call for doctoral student position.
