About Maria Åberg

Research:

Maria Åberg’s research group conducts clinical trials and epidemiological studies focusing on how factors during adolescence influence the risk of cardiovascular disease, mental illness, and cancer later in life. She emphasizes the importance of a holistic perspective on young people’s health, considering physical activity, mental wellbeing, and lifestyle habits.

Her research also explores associations between the work environment, mental health, and cardiovascular disease throughout working life. Several ongoing projects map the relationships between occupational group, psychosocial and physical working conditions, and mental illness—including suicidal behavior—with a particular focus on construction workers.

She also leads primary care–based studies investigating new treatment strategies for mental health problems.
