Linus Andersson is new captain at Tjärnö Laboratory

From offshore work in the Irish Sea, Linus Andersson is now moving back to Strömstad to start his employment as ship’s master at Tjärnö Marine Laboratory. He is replacing Karl-Henrik Gustafsson. In his leasure time he practices the noble art of baking sourdough bread.

What will you do here?

”I will work as the ship’s master together with Peter Nilsson. We will operate our research vessels Nereus and Doris to perform bottom dredging, hydrographical sampling and other operations. To start with I will learn as much as possible from Peter and also Joel White. It’s a luxury to have such co-workers.”

What have you worked with previously?

”For the last year and a half I worked on the motor vessel Discoverer for Northern Offshore Services. Our job was to transport technicians and equipment to offshore windmills in the Irish Sea. Before that I worked on large tankers, but it wasn’t really my thing; on smaller ships the teams are smaller, there is less hierarchy and everyone help each other to get the work done. Prior to the Bachelor of Nautical Science programme at the Linnæus University in Kalmar, I worked for five years on the ferries between Strömstad and the Koster Islands. I grew up in Strömstad.”

What do you do when you are not working?

”I spend a lot of time with friends and family, and my largest interest is cooking. I’ve gotten pretty good at baking sourdough bread, which is great fun.”

Something else you would like to share?

”I’m looking forward to developing at Tjärnö Laboratory, and can see a great potential. During the days so far we have been out with university students on the larger ship Nereus, and I realise it has been a long time since I saw such enthusiastic people.”
