Application periods for HDK-Valand

Our artistic programmes do not quite follow the same application periods as the rest of the University of Gothenburg, we have many more! Two are longer while two only extend over a month's time. Since there are many important dates to keep track of - we have gathered them all on this site.

Please note that these are approximate dates, which may vary one or two days ahead or behind depending on public holidays. For exact dates and additional dates for submission and application procedure: see the respective programme.

15 September - 15 October (may vary due to holidays)

The first application period includes:

Freestanding courses spring semester, starting in January of the following year.
MFA Programme in Literary Translation (application open only every two years) - only in Swedish

The start date for the Literary Translation programme is January of the following year.

15 October - 15 January (may vary due to holidays)

The second application period includes:

MFA programme in

  • Design
  • Child culture design
  • Embedded design
  • Arts and Crafts with specialisation in Textile Art, Jewellery Art, Ceramics Art
  • Film
  • Photography
  • Fine arts
  • Applied Arts and Design, Wood oriented Furniture design
  • Applied Arts and Design, Metal Art Programme

These programmes start in August-September the following year.

19-20 January - 1 March (may vary due to holidays)

This application period includes:

BFA programme in

  • Design - only in Swedish
  • Arts and Crafts with specialisation in Textile Art, Jewellery Art, Ceramic Art- only in Swedish
  • Film- only in Swedish
  • Photography - only in Swedish
  • Fine Arts - only in Swedish
  • Wood oriented Furniture design

  • Metal Art

All Bachelor of Arts programmes start in August-September of the same year.

15 February - 15 March (may vary due to holidays)

This application period includes:

Freestanding courses summer, offered from June to August of the same year.

15 March - 15 April (may vary due to holidays)

This application period includes:

Freestanding courses autumn semester, starting in August of the same year.
BFA in literary Composition - only in Swedish
MFA Programme in Literary Composition (application open only every other year) - only in Swedish
Subject courses within the subject teacher training programme in Visual Arts (several specialisations) - only in Swedish
Subject courses within the subject teacher training programme in Sloyd (several specialisations) - only in Swedish

These programmes start in August-September of the same year.
