Lapuente är professor vid institutionen för statsvetenskap och forskare vid Quality of Government Institute (QoG Institute), Göteborgs universitet. Han tog sin doktorsexamen i statsvetenskap från University of Oxford och Juan March Institute (Madrid) och började på QoG Institute 2007.
Forskningsintressen
Lapuentes forskning handlar mest om jämförande offentlig förvaltning och korruption. Varför bygger vissa länder upp autonoma "weberianska" administrationer? Producerar vissa politiska regimer förvaltningar med högre regeringskvalitet och lägre nivåer av korruption än andra? Varför antar vissa länder reformer av New Public Management?
Nuvarande forskning
Lapuente arbetar med effekterna av en politiserad administration gentemot en meritokratisk på en rad av olika offentliga sektors variabler. Dessutom är han involverad i ett stort forskningsprojekt för att kartlägga nivån av korruption (och Quality of Government) i Europa, både på nationell nivå som på subnationell nivå.
Undervisning och handledning
Lapuente är kurserna The Quality of Government in a Comparative Perspective (SK2212), Political Science Analysis (SK2121), och i International Administration and Global Governance (IAAG) Master's Programme.
