About us

Centre for Tourism is a leading research center in tourism and contributes to increased knowledge and professionalism in the tourism industry. Our mission focuses on three areas: tourism research, higher education in tourism, and knowledge transfer through collaboration with industry stakeholders.

he Centre for Tourism (CFT) at the University of Gothenburg has more than 20 years of experience in tourism research and education. CFT is a collaborative initiative involving the tourism industry, the wider community, and academia.

In the 1990s, a formal network for tourism researchers and practitioners was established, and in 2007 the Centre for Tourism was officially founded. In 2017, the Centre was formally inaugurated as a centre at the University of Gothenburg, involving not only the School of Business, Economics and Law, but also the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts.

The mission of the Centre for Tourism is to create a knowledge platform and to develop interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects and education in tourism. Its aim is to contribute to and promote an active dialogue between the tourism industry, the wider community, and academia, thereby increasing knowledge and professionalisation within the tourism field.
