The Swedish Postgraduate School in Economic History
The Swedish Postgraduate School in Economic History started in 2014 as a collaboration between the Departments of Economic History in Gothenburg, Lund, Stockholm, Umeå and Uppsala. The partnership has the overall aim to ensure a high quality of research training in economic history in Sweden.
More specific objectives for the postgraduate school are to:
- offer national postgraduate courses in economic history,
- give all students access to postgraduate courses outside their own university,
- give all students the opportunity to share expertise in economic history at other departments,
- offer doctoral students the opportunity to meet doctoral students and senior researchers at other universities.
The basis for the graduate program remains within each respective department, e.g. admissions, financing, employment, supervision, individual study plans, syllabi, scoring in postgraduate education and so on.
Each year an introductory gathering is organized for newly admitted doctoral students, and the Economic History meeting every two years organizes specific thesis seminars where the postgraduate school students get the opportunity to present papers and receive the comments of scholars from all over the country. Each semester a postgraduate course is organized by one of the collaborating departments. International lecturers and teachers from other Swedish universities may be involved. Courses are normally in English if all participants do not speak Swedish fluently. Typically, a course is valued at 7.5 higher credits and consists of seminars on two occasions to limit travel costs.
The Swedish Postgraduate School in Economic History is led by a steering committee consisting of representatives of the collaborating departments. The Presidency circulates between the departments and shifts in conjunction with the Economic History Meeting. The current Chairman is Lena Andersson Skog, Umeå (lena.andersson-skog@ekhist.umu.se).

The Postgraduate School in Economic History is open to students of economic history at other universities in Sweden. Course applications should be made to the department organizing the course.
