Campus and facilities
At the University of Gothenburg, the whole city is your campus. Study in an inspiring environment with modern facilities, libraries, and study spaces across central Gothenburg.
The University of Gothenburg is a city university, with campuses and study areas spread across the central parts of the city. As a student, you’ll naturally become part of urban life - close to culture, the sea, and the everyday energy of the city.
Which subject you choose to study determines your main location. However, distances are short, and it's easy to get between campuses, study areas, and libraries on foot, by bike, or by public transport.
Our buildings also offer plenty of spaces for study and collaboration. Whether you want to focus on your own, work in a group, or simply find a quiet place to think, you’ll find environments that support both concentration and a sense of community.
Haga
In the historic neighbourhood of Haga, the economists, social workers, political scientists, HR specialists, lawyers, and criminologists of the future pursue their studies. This area is home to the School of Business, Economics and Law, as well as parts of the Faculty of Social Sciences, creating a vibrant environment where social issues meet law and economics.
At the Economics Library, you’ll find course literature, journals, and special collections in economics, human geography, economic history, law, and statistics. Just across the street is the Social Sciences Library. Both libraries offer bright reading rooms and plenty of study spaces for individual work and group projects.
When it’s time for a break, you’re just a few steps away from Haga Nygata - famous for its cafés and relaxed atmosphere.
Campus Johanneberg
Just a few minutes’ walk from Vasaparken, you’ll find Campus Johanneberg. Here, future mathematicians, physicists, and computer scientists from the Faculty of Science and Technology study side by side with Chalmers students in an environment shaped by technology and science.
The campus includes several buildings with plenty of study spaces, reading rooms, and areas for group work. Currently, there are also temporary facilities here for students in music and performing arts from the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, while the new Art Faculty building is under construction at Campus Näckrosen.
Campus Lindholmen
Across the river lies Campus Lindholmen, where future systems scientists, AI specialists, digital leaders, and interaction designers from the Faculty of Science and Technology study alongside Chalmers students in an environment shaped by technology and innovation.
The Lindholmen area is growing rapidly and is home to many companies in tech, mobility, and digital solutions of the future. It’s easy to get here by bus or by ferry - offering one of Gothenburg’s most scenic commutes to campus.
Campus Linné
At Campus Linné, students of journalism, communication, psychology, global studies, and international relations come together. Parts of the Faculty of Social Sciences are located here, in an environment that offers the best of both the city and nearby green spaces.
This is also home to a branch of the Social Sciences Library, providing study spaces, literature, and resources for students in the social sciences. And when it’s time for a break, Slottsskogen park is just around the corner – one of Gothenburg’s most beloved green spaces for walks, picnics, or simply some quiet time.
Campus Medicinareberget
Campus Medicinareberget is a hub for the life sciences, located next to Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Here, future doctors, nurses, dentists, physiotherapists, and biomedical analysts study - alongside students in biology, chemistry, environmental science, earth sciences, and conservation. The combination of the Sahlgrenska Academy and the Faculty of Science and Technology makes this campus a unique meeting place for health, nature, and the environment.
There are plenty of study spaces - both in the surrounding campus buildings and at the Biomedical Library and Hälsovetarbacken Library. Both libraries offer course literature, journals, and dedicated areas for individual and group study. The close proximity to the hospital, laboratories, and research environments creates a study experience where theory and practice go hand in hand.
Campus Näckrosen
Just a stone’s throw from Götaplatsen and Korsvägen, Campus Näckrosen is home to the Faculty of Humanities. Here, future historians of ideas, literary scholars, linguists, and other humanities students study in close connection with the city’s cultural institutions.
The campus also houses the Humanities Library, which holds extensive collections in the humanities and cultural studies, as well as KvinnSam, Sweden’s national resource library for gender studies. The library offers a wide range of study spaces and resources for in-depth academic work.
Construction is currently underway on the new building Konstnärliga, which will eventually bring together programmes in performing arts, music, fine art, and design under one roof.
Campus Pedagogen
Right in the heart of Gothenburg, next to Grönsakstorget, you’ll find Campus Pedagogen. Here, students training to become preschool, primary, secondary, and vocational teachers, as well as future school leaders, food economists, and health educators, come together. The Faculty of Education is based here, creating a vibrant environment characterised by a strong commitment to learning and development.
The three campus buildings offer a wide range of study spaces, from group rooms to open areas for independent work. The Education Library is also located here, with collections in educational sciences and pedagogy, as well as children’s and young adult literature.
Vasagatan and Kristinelundsgatan Study Area
The main university building in Vasaparken is the heart of the University of Gothenburg, located right in the city centre. This is where the Vice-Chancellor and university leadership are based, and where some of the university’s major events take place, such as graduation ceremonies and academic celebrations.
Just a stone’s throw away are parts of the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts. Here, future designers, jewellery and textile artists, photographers, and visual artists come together. The buildings offer study spaces, workshops, and the Art Library, which holds collections in art, crafts, design, and photography. Once the new building Konstnärliga at Campus Näckrosen is complete, these programmes will relocate there.
The University Beyond Gothenburg
Campus Mariestad
In Mariestad, the university offers programmes in building crafts as well as in garden and landscape heritage craft. Practical work is combined with theoretical studies, all in close connection with historic environments and traditional craftsmanship.
Campus Steneby
Located in Dals Långed, Campus Steneby offers bachelor's and master’s level programmes in the arts. The focus is on material-based artistic practices in wood, metal, and textiles—within a creative environment where workshops are just as central as classrooms.
Tjärnö Study Area
Along the west coast, the university operates two marine research stations: Kristineberg, by the Gullmar Fjord, and Tjärnö, by the Koster Fjord. These sites host both teaching and research in marine sciences, with access to laboratories, research vessels, and smaller boats for studying the ocean’s unique ecosystems.
Libraries
The University of Gothenburg’s nine libraries have 6200 visitors every day during the academic year. At the libraries, you can borrow books, print documents and find course literature. You can also get assistance in information retrieval, find out how to manage citations and learn how to assess scholarly texts. As one of our students, you have access to 28,000 journals and 2300 e-books from anywhere. You are welcome to sit and study, use one of the computers or reserve a group room.
