Questionnaire study on initial police and/or medical care contact after being raped
We want to ask you, who have been raped and reported it to Police and/or sought medical care after being raped, if you want to participate in a questionnaire study in the research project "Women who have been raped: Quality of initial police and medical care contact". The questionnaire will be open until April 30, 2022.
The researchproject "Women who have been raped: Quality of initial police and medical care contact" is funded by the Swedish Crime Victim Compensation and Support Authority, and the regional Ethical Review Board in Gothenburg has reviewed and approved the project.
PhD Lisa Rudolfsson is the project leader and lead researcher. Associate professor Elisabeth Punzi is a researcher in the project, and the University of Gothenburg is the research principal.
The overall aim of this project is to gain a deeper understanding of how women who have been raped experience their meetings with police and medical personnel, and further, what experience professionals have of these meetings.

How do you participate in the questionnaire study?
Participating in this study entails answering a questionnaire about your experiences of meetings with police and/or medical personnel.
You do not have to have the experience of meeting with both police and medical personnel – you can answer the questionnaire based on your specific experiences.
The focus of the questions are your experiences of meeting with police and/or medical personnel, and not the experiences that led up to reporting/seeking care. It takes approximately 30 minutes to answer the questionnaire.
You have to be 18 years or older to answer the questionnaire.
How do you handle my answers?
The questionnaire is anonymous, and no specific answers can be connected to you in person. Together with other respondents, your answers will be processed in a computer programme for statistical analyses (SPSS) and the data will be stored at the University of Gothenburg.
The material will be handled in such a way that no one unauthorized has access to it. To enable scientific scrutiny, the data will be kept for 10 years. All written reports will be descriptions on group level.
How do I gain access to the results from the study?
The answers to the questionnaire will be used in analysis and compiled in results to be published in English in scientific journals, and further, presented at scientific conferences. At the end of the project, a Swedish report will be compiled and published in order to inform the Authorities in question.
What are the possible risks of participating and how do you handle these?
There is a risk that you will come to feel ill at ease by recollecting hurtful memories. If there is something that you feel the need to ventilate after answering the questionnaire, you are welcome to contact any of the researchers. You can be offered one consultation with Elisabeth Punzi.
What are the possible benefits of participating?
In previous studies on women who have raped, a majority of those participating have expressed appreciation that their situation is focused in research. This is also our own experience from conducting research on victims of sexual abuse, where our participants has expressed appreciation that their experiences were focused.
Participation is voluntary
It is voluntary to participate in this study, so it is important that you know that you can answer both yes or no to our invitation to participate.
