Department of Food and Nutrition and SportAbout Jonatan Jungmalm
Jonatan Jungmalm works as a researcher at the Department of Food and Nutrition, and Sports Science (IKI) at the University of Gothenburg. Jonatan received a Ph.D. in sports science in the spring of 2021. In his dissertation, he investigated injuries in long-distance running in a population of recreational runners. He has previously worked at ASICS and Löp & Sko, a store specializing in running shoes. His research interests are injury prevention, training load, movement mechanics, epidemiology, and screening. In the ongoing research project Medical encounters in endurance sports, Jonatan works to promote safe and healthy endurance sports by establishing a systematic approach to predicting medical events at major community-based events in endurance sports.
Jonatan teaches in the Sports Coaching program, mainly in kinesiology and biomechanics.
Jonatan is a member of the Swedish Association for Physical Activity and Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine West, Footwear Biomechanics Group, the International Society of Biomechanics, and the Swedish Society of Biomechanics. He serves as a peer-reviewer for the scientific journals Journal of Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy, International Journal of Sports Medicine, and BMJ Open Sport and Exercise Medicine
