About us

The existing, 38-metre long, ship R/V Skagerak, built 1969, will be replaced by a new 49-metre long ship. The new ship was being built at a shipyard in Poland, and was heavily delayed. The completion will be done in Falkenberg, Sweden. The new ship will have the same name as the existing.

University of Gothenburg owns and coordinate scientific work on board Skagerak. University of Gothenburg has commissioned Northern Offshore Services to staff the vessel and to be responsible for maritime safety.

Research Vessel (R/V) Skagerak is a part of the Marine Infrastructure at the University of Gothenburg. This also includes Tjärnö Marine Laboratory and Kristineberg Marine Research Station.
