Department of Physics
Physics is the science of matter and of the forces that hold our universe together. Scientific achievements in physics can affect philosophical thinking and our entire worldview, but physics research also lead to discoveries that help create new technologies and products that we use in our everyday lives. By studying physics, you acquire the tools to understand how our universe is connected, from its tiniest pieces to the largest celestial bodies.
The Department of Physics at the University of Gothenburg conducts pioneering research in a number of diverse areas: from atomic and molecular physics, nano-materials and biophysics to complex systems and the physics of condensed matter.
Our research and teaching at the department takes place in close collaboration with the departments of Physics, Space and Earth Sciences and Micro-technology and Nano-science at Chalmers University of Technology within the framework of the Gothenburg Physics Center.
