About Rune Andersson

Professor in Global Health at Sahlgrenska Academy, Gothenburg University from September 2010 and Senior physician on Hospital Infection Control at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg from January 2011. He is specialist in internal medicine, general medicine and infectious diseases.

After retirement in 2018 working as senior professor (20%) in infectious diseases with a nordic course in infection control.

Ph.D. in Infectious Diseases, 1988. Thesis : ” Giant cell arteritis- immunopatology, long-term corticosteroid treatment and mortality”.

Associate professor in Infectious Diseases 1992

Professor in Infectious Diseases at the Sahlgrenska Academy 2002 - 2010.

Guest professor in Contagious Diseases at Xinjiang Medical University, Urumqi, China from 2005-2014.

Main supervisor for 7 PhD students with passed exams: Harriet Hogevik 1996 on endocarditis, Christopher Schaufelbrger, 1997 on giant cell arteritis and Gunnar Jacobsson, 2009 on invasive Stafylococcus aureus infections, Erik Backhaus 2012 on Invasive pneumococcal infections, Rena Maimaiti , Urumqi, China on HIV and tuberculosis 2015.Lars Ljungström on Community acquired severe sepsis and septic shock, 2017, Manijeh Mehdiyar on living with HIV among immigrants in western Sweden, 2019 .
