Mikael Andersson new communication officer at the Tjärnö Laboratory
Experienced journalist Mikael Andersson began as communication officer at Tjärnö Marine Laboratory January 13. His 80 percent position serves both the infrastructure and the Department of Marine Sciences. Mikael replaces Susanne Liljenström who retired in summer 2024.
What will you be working on here?
– As a communication officer I will tell other people about what's happening at the Department of Marine Sciences, with a focus on the Tjärnö Laboratory. That accounts for 40 percent of my employment. The other 40 percent is dedicated to communication for the infrastructure of the Tjärnö Laboratory, through e.g. the web, social media, display screens, and for the steering committee. I am most looking forward to promoting and spreading the word about all the exciting activities here.
What did you do before?
– I've worked as a journalist for 20 years, both in newspapers and on the radio, and as a Press and Information Officer in Kosovo. Most recently I was editor-in-chief at Strömstads Tidning. For a few years I taught Swedish and English at folk high schools and upper secondary schools. Before the journalism, I trained and worked as a chef.
What do you do when you are not working?
– Outdoor life appeals to me, not least cross country skiing and Telemark skiing. With my recently acquired catamaran sailboat I want to discover the archipelago in northern Bohuslän. I am married and have two sons, and occasionally visit my old mother in Älvdalen, Dalarna.
Anything else you'd like to share?
– I like to go for long hikes in the mountains. Alone in the forest I once met a female brown bear with cubs; it was scary but ended well. I have studied Russian at the university and try to play harmonica.
