Workshop and vehicles
At the Tjärnö Laboratory there is a workshop where our experienced staff build and repair equipment. A passenger van and an electric car may be used for work-related transportation.
Workshop
There is a workshop, equipped for work with engines, wood, metal and plastics. Our skilled personell do manufacture, repair and service. We do jobs up to 30 minutes for university employees at no extra charge and as time permits. If there is need for larger jobs or for others than university employees; ask for offer. Only workshop technicians or employees with permission may work in the workshop.
The workshop staff can consult in technical and scientific matters, such as:
- Planning, resource availability (physical and logistic) of field and/or lab experiments
- Experimental design (lab and field, aquarium plumbing, replication, environmental controls
- Electronics (repair, modification, installation)
- Field operations (small boats, snorkelling, diving, logistics, instrument deployments, risk analysis)
Infrastructure and staff are also available for:
- ROV operations
- Research vessel operations (Nereus, Doris)
- Microalgae cultivation
- Workshop construction (metal, plastic, wood, welding, lathe)
Passenger van
The Volkswagen 9-seat passenger van should primarily be used by employees at the Tjärnö Laboratory for work-related transportation. It can secondarily be used by scientists and others who work or study at the Tjärnö Laboratory, for picking up and dropping off students and other work-related transportation. Students on courses in groups lasting longer than one week may use the van also to buy food they will prepare over weekends. However, students are primarily encouraged to use public transport (bus 891 between Tjärnö and Strömstad) or carpool. Private use of the van is not allowed.
- Student on applied project or degree project must get an approval from supervisor prior to use.
- Trips longer than 24 hours must be approved by station manager or coordinator.
- The van is booked in Google Sheets.
- Price: 7 SEK/km excl. 25% VAT.
Electric car
We care for the environment and offer a Volvo 5-seat electric car, only for employee's work-related travels. It is a climate-smart alternative to the larger van, or to a private car running on fossil fuel.
Longer trips, for instance to Göteborg, take precedence over shorter travel if the shorter trip can be solved in another way (i.e. by changing day or go by bus).
If you are staying at the Tjärnö Laboratory and urgently need to book the car, contact the Reception and they will assist you.
Rules for the use of electric car:
- Before you drive the electric car for the first time, Henrik Johansson will give a briefing about the car including charging, as well as using the alcohol interlock and charge card.
- The car is booked in Google Sheets.
- Price: 7,00 SEK/km excl. 25% VAT.
