Election studies
The Swedish national election studies are conducted in connection with national elections in Sweden. The purpose is to study voters' perceptions, attitudes and behavior in connection with democratic elections.
At each election, thousands of citizens participate in the Swedish national election studies, which have been conducted in connection with parliamentary elections since 1956.
Election studies have also been conducted at all referendums in Sweden since 1957. This data contains information on how the Swedish people reasoned and voted on pensions, nuclear power, EU membership and the euro.
Since 1995, European Parliamentary election studies have also been included in the series. These contain general questions on politics, but also more detailed questions on attitudes to the EU and the European Parliament elections.
Since 1995, the Swedish National Election Studies Program has been part of the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES). This cooperation includes a common module of survey questions in several countries around the world. The collaboration between national electoral research teams around the world enables systematic analysis of electoral behavior under varying institutional circumstances.
