Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences

Welcome to the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences (BioEnv)!
We give courses and programs and conduct research within areas that deals with the world around us. Biology is the the study of life, that is all living organisms and the processes that control them, whereas environmental sciences focus on the interplay between humans and nature.
You find us who work at the department in the Botanical building (close to the Botanical garden) and the Zoology building (at Medicinareberget) in Gothenburg as well as at Kristineberg Marine Research Station in Fiskebäckskil.
Herbarium
Herbarium GB dates back to the 18th century and is a university-wide research infrastructure at the University of Gothenburg, with placement at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. Here, dried plants, fungi, algae, etc. are stored for comparative and evolutionary studies.
