About Lena Andersson

Associate professor in Social Work, PhD in Social Medicine, MSW senior lecturer. Defended her thesis 2006 at the department of Social Medicine, Sahlgrenska Academy, Gothenburg University; "Regional differences in disability pensions and sickness absence with psychiatric diagnoses in Sweden and Norway 1980-2000. The influence of demography and access to psychiatric health care". My research areas concern global health, access and barrier to care, migration, undocumented migrants, mental health, social development and the right to health.

Research project:

  • Towards sustainable social development: Strengthening social work education, research, and practice in Rwanda (Sida).
  • Health and ill-health of undocumented migrants in Sweden (Research Council).
  • Barriers to health care and the right to health for persons with mental illness in South Africa: How can access and the right to health be improved? (Sida)

I lead the research group Global social development, mental health and human rights in a life course perspective", an interdisciplinary research group with a focus on issues related to health, social development goals (SDGs) and human rights in Sweden and the Global South.
