Alumni Mentorship Programme

Thanks to the engagement of the alumni network and support from the Handels Vänner association, the School of Business, Economics and Law is able to offer alumni an exclusive mentorship programme focused on personal and professional development.

The programme is designed to create space for reflection and growth. Alumni with varying levels of professional and personal experience participate as mentors and mentees to discuss and share professional insights. This mutual exchange enriches both mentor and mentee, offering new perspectives and an expanded network.

Interested in becoming a mentor?

Contribute to the next generation’s professional growth while enhancing your own skills and perspectives.

As a mentor, you should:

  • Have several years of experience in your field, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Ideally have broad experience across industries, roles, or cultures.
  • Be able to commit to regular meetings throughout the programme: approximately 8–10 one-on-one sessions and 3–5 group meetings.
  • Be an active and curious listener who uses a coaching approach—asking open-ended questions and encouraging reflection rather than offering direct solutions.
  • Share insights from your own experience to support the mentee’s development.
  • Be open to learning and developing your own perspectives through the mentorship.

Previous experience as a mentor or coach is beneficial but not required. Accepted mentors receive an introduction to help them prepare for and navigate their role, ensuring they get the most out of the experience.

Interested in becoming a mentee?

You should:

  • Have at least two years of work experience after completing your studies at the School of Business, Economics and Law.
  • Be able to relate to and discuss real-life work situations.
  • Commit to regular meetings: approximately 8–10 one-on-one sessions and 3–5 group meetings over the course of a year.
  • Take responsibility for driving the mentorship forward by setting clear goals, preparing for meetings, and scheduling sessions.
  • Participate with an open and active mindset.

The mentor acts as a coaching guide, helping you broaden your perspective and challenge your thinking—adding value to both your career and personal development. To get the most out of the mentorship, it’s essential that you take initiative and steer the conversations based on your needs and goals. Accepted mentees receive an introduction/training to help them prepare and maximise the benefits of the programme.

About the programme

Mentors and mentees are provided with a clear framework to help them benefit from their shared experiences and ensure a rewarding, developmental, and inspiring relationship. Participation is limited to ensure a high-quality exchange environment. Participants come from both Gothenburg and Stockholm, and the programme may expand to other cities if interest is high.

The programme is open to alumni of the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg. Membership in Handels Vänner is included upon acceptance. Since 2023, the programme has been conducted in English. It runs for one year and includes 3–5 group meetings and approximately 8–10 one-on-one sessions. Participation is free of charge and based on active engagement from both mentors and mentees.

The mentorship committee

The programme has been developed and is managed entirely on a voluntary basis by the Mentorship Committee, which consists of a number of experienced and dedicated alumni.

  • Nina Wittholt
  • Eva Wegsjö Sande
  • Hans Rosenhoff
  • Vitor Ortega
  • Karin Bjerhem
  • Anne-Cathrine Thore Olsson
