Welfare and Living Conditions

How people live their lives, their economic conditions and the problems to which they are exposed in terms of health, housing and social relations are central questions in sociology with links to working life, social policy, gender issues and integration policy. Research is being conducted at the Department concerning the living conditions of young people and how these conditions affect the path from school to work; the social welfare of older people and the path from work to retirement; and the relationship between social conditions, the individual’s genetic setup, and the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Research is also being conducted on child poverty in developing countries.
