English - research
Research in English at the Department of Languages and Literatures encompasses linguistics, literature, literary theory, and didactics, with a focus on contemporary societal and technological changes.
Research Areas
Within linguistics, the role of language in identity, ideology, and communication is studied in both historical and modern contexts. Key areas include sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, World Englishes, and grammar, with a particular emphasis on Tanzanian English and digital communication.
Literary research addresses the reception of Shakespeare in the Nordic countries, postcolonial and African literature, satire, gender, and the ethics of reading. It engages critically with post-structuralism, ecocriticism, posthumanism, and other contemporary theories. Within didactics, digital and international language teaching is examined, including the impact of AI on writing and feedback practices.
Research also explores multilingualism within families and society, utilizing methods such as conversation analysis.
Literary didactics focuses on how various genres, such as historical novels and graphic novels, can be used pedagogically to enrich teaching.
