Our research

The research pursued at the Department of Languages and Literatures concerns the languages and literatures of the world. It is grounded in a broad cultural contextualisation and involves a wide spectrum of theoretical formations and individual approaches. Corpus linguistics, contrastive linguistics, lexicology, sociolinguistics, translation studies; languages, literatures, issues of culture and identity, language and literature didactics, genre theory, literary theory, reception studies, edition philology, and medieval studies are some of the areas of strength among the language areas of the department.

Areas of research

The Department’s research is international in both publication and collaboration. Through visits to leading research centres and inviting renowned researchers we are able to maintain high and broad expertise. We organise our research into four overarching areas: Literary and Cultural Studies; Language in Society; Language Learning and Language Teaching; Linguistic Structures.
