The research pursued at the Department of Languages and Literatures concerns the languages and literatures of the world. It is grounded in a broad cultural contextualisation and involves a wide spectrum of theoretical formations and individual approaches.
Corpus linguistics, contrastive linguistics, lexicology, sociolinguistics, translation studies; languages, literatures, issues of culture and identity, language and literature didactics, genre theory, literary theory, reception studies, edition philology, and medieval studies are some of the areas of strength among the language areas of the department. The research carried on at the Department is international in character, both as regards publication and collaboration. Through visits to international research centres within the different language areas and disciplines and by inviting renowned researchers, we are able to maintain a both high and broad competence level.
