About Amy Wanyu Ou

I earned my PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020. Since moving to Sweden in 2021, I have worked as a senior lecturer at the Department of Applied IT at GU and later as a postdoc fellow at Chalmers.

I see myself as a linguistic ethnographer, though my research interests are pretty broad. Some of them are: intercultural communication and multilingual phenomena in internationalised higher education, English-medium instruction, language policy, and how immigrant children develop multilingual repertoires.

Lately, I’ve been diving into how generative AI affects university students’ communicative competence—I have published some studies on this and I’m working on the theory behind it. As for teaching, I mostly cover topics such as language and intercultural communication, academic writing, and research methodology.
