Our research

Why are so many people affected by type 2 diabetes? How is the risk of developing type 2 diabetes influenced by factors such as age, obesity and family history? Find out more about our research here.

The investigators at the Lundberg Laboratory seek to understand the causes of type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. Our goals are to identify early risk factors and to pinpoint biomarkers to enable early intervention and prevention. We seek to understand the impact of overweight and obesity, as well as the effects of increased adipose tissue mass. In particular we focus on the role of cellular senescence, shown to be increased in individuals with type 2 diabetes and in individuals with hereditary risks for developing diabetes.
