About Ulf Strömberg

In 1993, I got my PhD in mathematical statistics at Lund University, where I then continued my academic career at the Faculty of Medicine; Associate Professor in Medical Statistics (1996) and Professor of Epidemiologic Methods (2004).

University of Gothenburg has been my academic residence since 2016, first as a guest professor for one year and then as an adjunct professor for a 7.5-year period, when I held positions at Sahlgrenska University Hospital (director of studies in medical science methodology for doctors in specialist training), Region Halland (epidemiologist) and Region Kronoberg (epidemiologist).

In July 2024 I started a new position as a researcher. I can devote my work to leading research programs/projects funded by the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working life and Welfare (Forte) and the Swedish Cancer Society. The research develops methods to target and evaluate public health interventions to residents in areas where the disease burden is high or participation in organized screening is low. The empirical studies take an epidemiologic approach and focus on preventive interventions within the Swedish health care system. Specific research questions are: What registry data and statistical signals can be used to identify areas with high disease burden and low participation in organized screening programs? What evaluation designs of targeted interventions should be applied? What barriers and facilitating factors impact on the implementition of a national information system for rational targeting?
