About Roger Schweizer

I currently work as a researcher and lecturer at the Department of Business Administration, School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg. My present research interests are international strategy issues in general and firms' internationalization processes, international entrepreneurship, the relationship between headquarters and subsidiaries, as well as mergers and acquisitions in particular. In 2005, I received my Ph.D. on a thesis with the title An arranged marriage under institutional duality - The local integration process between two globally merging MNC´s subsidiaries. Using an institutional approach on organizations, this dissertation examines how two merging MNCs' local subsidiaries deal with the MNCs' dilemma between their need to integrate their activities globally in the pursuit of economies of scale and scope with their equal need to respond to the local conditions of each host-country market. During recent years, my research has focused on (1) decision making during firms’ internationalization; (2) the disintegration process following the separation of organizations; as well as (3) the question of how Swedish MNCs adapt their global organizational structure and strategy in order to be able to leverage on the potential business opportunities in emerging markets (such as India). More specifically, I study Swedish MNCs' development of R&D competence and capacity in India. I am also involved in the School of Executive MBA program and since 2016 I am the Head of the Graduate School at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg.

I teach mainly within the fields of International Business, Strategy and Methodology at the Master of Science programs in International Business and Trade and Management, as well as at the Executive MBA program.
