About Anna Backman
Anna Backman is a CUL PhD student in Humanities specializing in Educational Sciences at the Department of Literature, History of Ideas and Religion, University of Gothenburg.
Anna also works at the Center for School Development, the Education Administration, City of Gothenburg.
The research interest is about children's perspectives on picturebooks, as well as what teaching about picturebooks can mean in preschool.
Anna's licentiate thesis (2018) is a variation theory study, a monograph, about what is possible for children to discern and experience from the multifaceted phenomenon of shadow in conversations based on children's books that deal with shadow in different ways.
In the continued dissertation work, the results of the licentiate thesis are reworked into two scientific articles. The first article (1.) 'Shadow in children's picturebooks: highlighting children's perspectives' has been published and the second (2.) will be an article on variation theory for research on picturebooks from children's perspectives. In addition, two new variation theory studies are carried out, which deal with (3.) how children's discernment of features for different kinds of picturebooks is made possible and (4.) what children's experience of factual information in reading activities with fictionalised non-fiction picturebooks can entail.
