About Laith Hussain

Laith is a registered Postdoc at the department of public health and community medicine.

He is an epidemiologist in global/ public health with research interest in global health measurements, demographic surveillance and cause of death ascertainment. Within his field of activity, Laith has been involved in several studies and empirical research to explore aspects around maternal and child health, infectious diseases, assessment of healthcare medical and operational services and, a series of research using the Swedish high quality registry data to assist public health and policy making.

Laith has extended interest to utilize data from Health and Demographic Surveillance Systems (HDSS) across communities of 50 global sites (under the INDEPTH network) to explore aspects related to health measurement tools and mortality at population-level. His previous research has advanced the application of Verbal Autopsy - the best alternative method to elicit causes of death in settings with no functioning civil registration and vital statistics systems - into a novel approach with potential for monitoring goal 3.8 from the sustainable development goals and against the universal health coverage at global level.
