Central location

Språkskrapan is centrally located in the city and close to the university area around Näckrosdammen and Humanisten. Public transport hub Korsvägen is close by as well as many green areas such as Renströmsparken and Näckrosdammen (water lily pond). Only a short distance away you can find Götaplatsen, a large open space surrounded by some of the city's major cultural institutions such as the Gothenburg City Library, the City Theater, the Gothenburg Museum of Art, the Gothenburg Art Gallery and the Gothenburg Concert Hall.

The accommodation type varies from single studios and apartments for two, to larger shared apartments. In these large apartments, five to six people will live, each having their own bedroom but sharing the kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Regardless of the accommodation type there are social spaces and areas in the building for all tenants to use.

Focus on sustainability and reuse

By converting an existing building, the environmental impact of construction is reduced. The building is equipped with solar panels on the roof and has also been surveyed with the aim of salvaging and reusing parts of the existing materials.

A sustainable approach has been applied in the design and furniture choices, and the residents will be able to give & take materials in the form of a freeshop located in the building.

Språkskrapan apartment information

Do I need to bring anything? What does the accommodation fee include?
All apartments are furnished with the basic necessities including kitchen utensils, bed linen and towels. The accommodation fee includes electricity, heating, hot & cold water and broadband (Wi-Fi).

How can I receive my mail and post?
Each apartment/room has a postbox at the main entrance of the building. Your name and apartment number will be automatically updated on the postbox when your rental contract starts.

Where can I wash my clothes? Is there a laundry room?

The building has a laundry room on the top floor. The washing detergent and softener are filled automatically and therefore you do not need to bring any washing detergent with you.

Is water and electricity included?
Water (hot and cold), heating, electricity and internet is included in the accommodation fee.

Do I need to sign a contract?
Yes, you need to sign a rental contract on the day of arrival when you collect the keys from us. More information regarding the collection of keys will be sent out in a mail after the booking has been confirmed and the Terms and Conditions have been accepted.

Can I bring my pet with me?
No. Pets are not allowed in any of the apartments or rooms at Språkskrapan.

What is the standard voltage in Sweden?
Standard voltage is 220 volts AC, 50 hertz. Europlug; type C or type F.

Is cleaning of the apartment included?
No, cleaning is not included and must be taken care of by the student. Cleaning equipment can be found in the accommodation, but the tenants must buy cleaning products.

What do I need to consider regarding cleaning of the apartment when I leave?
Upon departure, the apartment/room must be left neat, clean and tidy. In case of none or unapproved cleaning a cleaning company will be called in. The cost of the cleaning will be charged to the tenant.

What is the address of Språkskrapan?
The address is: Lundgrensgatan 7, 412 56 Gothenburg
You will receive your apartment number when you receive the keys. The closest tram stop is Korsvägen and the closest bus stop is Carlandersplatsen and Götaplatsen.

Accommodation fee and payment

What is the rent for the apartments/rooms?

Single apartment with a kitchen and toilet/bathroom ranges between 6900 to 8400 SEK/month/person
Shared apartment with 2 separate bedrooms, kitchen and toilet/bathroom is 6600 SEK/person/month
Shared apartment with 5 separate bedrooms, kitchen and two toilets/bathrooms is 6000 SEK/person/month
Shared apartment with 6 separate bedrooms, kitchen and two toilets/bathrooms is 6000 SEK/person/month

What is the cancellation policy? When will I receive my first invoice?
We apply a notice period of one full calendar month. The notice should be given by e-mail to sprakskrapan@gu.se. The first invoice will be generated after your arrival and sent to your postbox in the building.

Concerning rental contracts we operate on a half or full month basis. For example:

If your arrival date is on the 7 of a month, your rental contract will begin from the first of that month.
If your arrival date is on or after 15 of a month, your rental contract will begin from the 15 of the month.

Please note that the notice period is one complete calendar month.

How do I receive my invoices?
The invoices will be sent on a monthly basis (in the beginning of every month) via post to your apartment’s post-box. The due date on the invoice is 30 days from the date of issue. For any questions regarding invoices, please contact us at sprakskrapan@gu.se.

How can I pay?
You will receive the invoice via post in good time before the due date, and you can pay either by bank transfer or online card payment. If you wish to pay in cash you can only do so at Change Group located in the cities Alingsås and Trollhättan. You need to bring the following:

Passport
The bill/invoice with payment details; receiver’s bank giro number/plus giro number etc.

Note: do not forget to write your name and invoice number when paying.

Can you confirm that you have received my payment?
No, we do not provide payment certificate since the registration is handled by the Division of Finance of the University. If your payment has not been received or if any problem occurs, you will be informed.
