How to apply to the Master's Programme in Strategic Human Resource Management and Labour Relations

Information about the entry requirements, selection criteria and application process for the Master's Programme in Strategic Human Resource Management and Labour Relations

Two application periods for the programme

  • All international students are encouraged to apply in the first admission round. This round takes place many months before the start of the semester and gives students the time they need to pay their tuition fees, apply for and receive a residence permit (if required), find housing, etc. The final application date is 15 January for programmes in English starting in the autumn semester.
    First admission round at

  • The second admission round is suggested for students from Sweden. Even applicants from an EU/EEA country have the possibility to apply, as they do not need a residence permit. This also applies to students who already live in Sweden and therefore do not need to apply for a residence permit. Non-EU/EEA students will most likely not have enough time to obtain their permit before the start of the semester. The application deadline for the second admission round is 15 April.

Entrance Requirements


To be admitted, a Bachelor's degree of 180 credits is required in either of the three following areas: Human Resource Management and Labour Relations, Social Sciences or Business Administration. Please note that a BA in Economics or Law does not give eligibility.

Proficiency in English

Applicants must prove English proficiency: English 6/English B from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL or IELTS is required. Proficiency in English is deemed a necessity in view that the course curricula is exclusively in English.

Selection criteria

The admissions selection criteria is based upon three groups: Group 1) 20 % of the places are allocated to applicants with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management and Labour Relations.

Group 2) 80% of the study places are allocated to applicants with 60 credits in one of the following disciplines within the fields of Business Administration and Social Science: Human Resource Management and Labour Relations, Management, Marketing, Organisation, Pedagogy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Social Work, Sociology and Working Life Studies.

Group 3) allocation of places to all other applicants who fulfil the entrance requirements if study places are not filled by candidates from selection group one and two.

Letter of Intent/CV

Selection will also be based on an assessment of the academic and professional merits of applicants leading to judgment of their overall ability to successfully complete the programme. To assist in this process applicants should not only submit documentation demonstrating fulfillment of the entry requirements (i.e. degree certificate and transcript, certification of language skills) but also a Letter of Intent and a CV. Upload the Letter of Intent/CV on or no later than 1 February (if you apply in the first admission round) or 2 May (if you apply in the second admission round). N.B. Applicants who do not submit these additional documents will be placed in Group 3 with 0 as credit value. It is very important that you submit the letter of intent / CV.
