Maureen McKelvey about ISS2024

Published

In June, a large social science & economics research conference, ISS2024, is arranged in Gothenburg, in collaboration with the International Joseph A. Schumpeter Society. Maureen McKelvey, Professor of Industrial Management, is Director of the Gothenburg U-GOT KIES research centre and responsible for the conference.

Hello Maureen!

What is the theme of ISS2024?

The 2024 theme is Transformation: Creative Accumulation and Creative Destruction in the Economy. Transformation focuses on innovative change, which is a classic aspect of Schumpeter's analysis of the economy and society. Creative Accumulation and Creative Destruction refer to different ways of creating change, either through large organizations, where new knowledge complements existing, or entrepreneurial ventures, where new knowledge and technology replace the previously dominant.

What will you discuss during the conference?

ISS2024 is a social science & economics research conference, and we are discussing changes in the economy that create new challenges and opportunities for the society. These changes can be analyzed in a variety of areas, ranging from political, geographical and historical contexts to industrial companies and the business community in general.

How do you participate in the conference?

The conference is open to both established researchers, such as professors, as well as doctoral students. The conference has already received many extended abstracts, but I want to remind you that the deadline is February 1st, so there is still time to submit. We invest extra in activities for doctoral students and they pay 50% of the conference fee, thanks to generous support from our sponsors. Registration is open, and you can find all the information on our website.
