About Ewa-Lena Bratt

Research presentation Professor Ewa-Lena Bratt is a researcher with focus on transitions in health care. She is a nurse specialized in health care for children and adolescents. Ewa-Lena has more than 30 years of experience in pediatric care, especially with children and young people with congenital heart disease.

Research Ewa-Lena is the research group leader in the research group "Health care transitions " She is the one of the project leaders in the national research projects Stepstones. Stepstones is a project involving the development of a personcentered transition program for young people with longterm conditions and is now evaluated in a randomized controlled trial to examine the effects of such a program on the individual’s empowerment, participation and involvement in care. In parallel with the randomized study, a process evaluation and a health economic evaluation take place. The Stepstones program will now be implemented at various hospitals in Sweden.

She is also the national project-coordinator for the Adole7C-project (AdolesCents reCeiving Continuous Care for Childhood-onset Chronic Conditions). This is a international collaboration project with Capetown, South-Africa.The Adole7C-project will on the basis of hospital-related factors in Sweden study: (i) proportion of patients with congenital heart disease who continued or discontinued their medical follow-up after transfer to adult healthcare, and at what care level any follow-up occurs; (ii) patient-proximal and hospital-related factors that predict patients will not be followed-up; (iii) consequences for sickness, mortality and healthcare consumption; (iv) barriers and facilitators to continued medical follow-up on the basis of the patients’ perspective.

Teaching Ewa-Lena is the course leader for the courses "Congenital heart disease in children and young people" 7.5 credits, "Advanced care of children and young people with heart disease" 7.5 credits and the course "Transfer to adult care" 7,5 credits. Furthermore, she is the examiner for the course "Complex care situations" 7.5 credits in the nursing program and is the examiner in the course "Qualitative methods II" (third cycle). She is also the Course leader (shared) in the mandantory PhD-course "Introduction to research theory and quantitative and qualitative design" 5.0 Credits. Third cycle.

She teaches mainly within in pediatric nursing care, adolescent health and qualitative methods. Ewa-Lena involved in developing forms for integrating incoming international nursing students in the course complex care situations.

Clinical activity Ewa-Lena has worked since 1998 with children and adolescents with congenital heart disease. In her position as professor, she is working 20% at the department for pediatric cardiology at the Queen Silvia Children's Hospital, Sahlgrenska university hospital, Gothenburg. In December 2021 she was appointed as university consultant nurse at the Sahlgrenska university hospital.

Since the spring of 2022, Ewa-Lena is the Deputy Head of the Section for Långvariga tillstånd at the institute of Health and Care Sciences, University of Gothenburg.
