School of Global StudiesAbout Arne Frederik Wackenhut
I am a Senior Lecturer in Global Studies and Associate Professor in Peace and Development Research. I received my PhD in Peace and Development Research in 2017, with a dissertation on the 2011 Egyptian revolution. In 2023, I was awarded the title Excellent Teacher at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Since 2025, I have served as Assistant Head of Department and Head of Education at the School of Global Studies. Previously, I was Director of Studies with responsibility for staffing from 2021 to 2023, and Director of Studies with responsibility for pedagogical development from 2023 to 2024.

Teaching and learning in higher education
I am currently involved in an externally funded research project on diaspora mobilisation and diaspora engagement, with a particular focus on Sweden as a host country. I am also in the final stages of a project that aims to deepen our understanding of diaspora groups’ role as actors in foreign policy.
Teaching
Due to my current leadership responsibilities, my teaching is somewhat limited. Among other things, I am responsible for a Master’s course on global authoritarianism and the struggle for democracy. I also supervise and examine Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, preferably on diaspora-related topics and issues concerning transnational repression.
