About Arne Frederik Wackenhut
I am an Adjunct Lecturer in Global Studies at the School of Global Studies at University of Gothenburg in Sweden.
In June 2017, I successfully defended my doctoral thesis, which sought to better understand the role of the Cairo-based political opposition in the diffusion of protest during the Egyptian Uprising of 2011. My research interests include, but are not limited to, civil resistance, social movement theory, contentious politics, and research ethics. I am particularly interested in questions relating to grassroots mobilization for socio-political change in less-democratic settings. In my work I am trying to explore ways in which a combination of process tracing techniques and qualitative interview data can help us map the complex causal pathways that produce, for instance, the large-scale diffusion of collective contentious behaviour.
My teaching philosophy builds on student-centered learning, and places an emphasis on teaching and learning activities that encourage deep learning.
