About Airi Rovio-Johansson

Airi Rovio-Johansson is Professor in Educational Sciences at Gothenburg Research Institute (GRI), School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg. The interest in human behaviour, learning and action in different educations, professions, and in different life-periods influenced my selection of education at the university. I have education as professional psychologist and as professional teacher as subject specialist. Afterwards I finished the degree as Licentiate of Philosophy in Education and in 1999 Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Sciences. In 2006, I was appointed Associate Professor in Educational Sciences at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at University of Gothenburg. At GRI, I am senior researcher and PhD supervisor in Educational sciences.

Multidisciplinary phenomenon is focus in my research. I investigate how and what students learn in higher education; how people make sense of communication, in talks and in meetings in professional public and private organizations. My research fields are organizing change processes; students’ sustainable learning processes in higher education; organizing of subject content in teaching and lecturers´ professional development in higher education; sustainable inter-generations and intercultural lifelong learning. In a number of years as coordinator of institutional quality management projects at European University Association (EUA), I have taken part in developing a Quality Assurance System, “Institutional Evaluation Programme: Performance in Research, Performance in Teaching Quality, and Innovation”, for European national and international Institutions in Higher Education belonging to European Union (EU).

I have published articles in international and national journals and books and book chapters in international and national Publishing Houses.
