So far, only two scientists from Sweden have been appointed as ISC Fellows; Johan Rockström, Professor of Environmental Science at Stockholm University and Joint Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, and Dan Larhammar, Professor of Molecular Biology at Uppsala University.

In total, 100 new ISC Fellows were appointed in recognition of outstanding contributions to promoting science as a global public good. The new ISC Fellows include eminent social and natural scientists, engineers and thought leaders who have made impactful contributions to science and society.

– The ISC want to clearly recognize those scientists who have and continue to contribute to the global voice for science, says Peter Gluckman, President of the International Science Council in a statement. Science needs champions, not just those who receive high profile scientific prizes but also champions who can give voice to the global voice for science.

The International Science Council (ISC) is a non-governmental organization situated in Paris, with a unique global membership that brings together 40 international scientific unions and associations, as well as over 140 national and regional scientific organisations including academies e.g. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and research councils. It is the only international non-governmental organization bringing together the natural and social sciences and the largest global science organization of its type.

Nominations to the ISC fellowship are made by members and associates of the ISC, its Governing Board, Fellowship Council and Secretariat and then evaluated formally by a selection process conducted by the Fellowship Council.
