About Maria Sjöberg

My research interests are broad, but life is short and limits what I can maintain. However, I've just released a little book that discusses the basics of our historical knowledge, 'Critical thinking about history' (Lund: Studentlitteratur 2012). This encapsulated my whole interest in scholastic and intermediary history.

The field in which I have probably spent most of my time, and continue to do so, is with gender-historical questions during the early modern period. Firstly, I entered deeply into agrarian conditions, which for my part formed a study of classical subjects of the older times: heritage, family and marriage. I then became interested in the military organization. In the book 'Women in Campaigns 1550-1850' (Hedemora / Möklinta: Gidlunds 2008) the terms of gender are analyzed closely. I am currently trying to follow up one of the tracks in the latter book: the conditions for young boys in former armies and navies.
