Helena Åberg, former domestic science teacher is household and have passed the doctorate in domestic science. The thesis has the title "Sustainable waste management in households — from international policy to everyday practises. Experiences from two Swedish field studies dealing with household motives to engage in eco-friendly waste management but also prerequisites for this as well as the outcome of the engagement. Interest in the Affairs of the household as a player in the technical infrastructure system was brought back in the late 1980s when Helena was linked to research projects at Chalmers University of technology around the particula source separation and composting. Helena was active at Chalmers in about 5 years and then moved to the research activities at the Department of Domestic Science in 1992. Helena was adopted as the first student of Household science at Gothenburg University and graduated in 2000. Since then, she has worked in several multidisciplinary projects in the waste and VA area.
Helen's main interest in these contexts is to study and communicate knowledge about domestic habits, assumptions and requirements that system operators as well as on how this knowledge can be useful in planning and development of sustainable technological systems.
