About Christel Larsson

Christel Larsson is a professor in food and nutrition at the Department of Food and Nutrition, and Sports Science. She is a trained nutritionist (MSc) at Stockholm University and also holds a master's degree in public health from Karolinska Institute and a master's degree in food and nutrition from Umeå University. In 2001, she became the first doctorate in food and nutrition in Sweden, with a thesis about young people's food habits and health. Christel has received the Royal Skytteanska Society's Prize, the Dr PersFood Research Prize and the Western Gastronomic Academy's Science Prize.

The research Christel Larsson conducts focus on healthy food habits among children and adolescents, plant-based diets and food-related learning. She is principal investigator for VeggiSKills-Sweden which is an international research project in collaboration with researchers in Norway and Australia. She also leads the Swedish research-hub within the Food Literacy International Partnership (FLIP) and participate in several ongoing research projects about promoting healthy lifestyles regarding food habits and physical activity. For several years, she has led the research environment Food & Meals and has supervised several doctoral students in both nutritional science, sports science and public health and epidemiology.

Christel Larsson is part of the steering group for a national research network in epidemiology and nutrition (NEON), and has contributed to several publications, reports and books, such as the book "Näringslära för Högskolan" and "Människors möte med mat och måltider", and the report Towards a Shared Understanding of Food Literacy Across the European Union".

Christel has held several management positions within the university and are now elected as Pro-Dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences with responsibility for research.
