About

The course is an elective evening course at the Institute of Health and Care sciences. It is open to all students at the Sahlgrenska Academy. The overall aim of the course is to deepen the participants' knowledge of human health and illness in a transcultural perspective, to create an understanding of how culture as a phenomenon affects meetings in health care, and to acquire and practice the methodology of health anthropology. The course deals with the concept of culture, migration and refugee status, human rights, intersectionality and communication. Through literature studies, method exercises and group discussions, students are encouraged to critically analyze perceptions about transcultural health and care. The goal is to support future and fully train healthcare workers in their ability to have a holistic view of patients in a world of globalization and diversity. The course aims at dialogue between students in different professions active in health care and dentistry for future collaboration.
