Summary

One of the central challenges facing the public sector in all countries at present is the successful management of migration and integration. The course gives students an introduction to this important societal challenge that states, regions and municipalities are facing. It highlights the dominant forms of migration currently witnessed and describes how the associated challenges are problematized by migration scholars.

Part of international Summer School
This course is part of University of Gothenburg’s international Summer School for Sustainability. The Summer School gathers Swedish and international students and offers a broad extra-curricular program to which participants can attend.

By focusing on the theoretically driven analysis of the formulation and implementation of migration and integration policy, the course draws students' attention to the various ways in which researchers draw on theory and methods to better explain the dynamics associated with managing migration and integration.

Teaching takes place in the form of seminars that focus on assigned literature, discussions with invited speakers who work with migration and integration on a daily basis, and a written examination.

Selection

Selection is based upon average grade from upper secondary school (34 %), the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits (33 %) and Högskoleprovet - Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test (33 %).

After graduation

This course is a good theoretical and methodological preparation for those who want to write a master's thesis on migration or integration.
