Short description

In 2021, Sweden celebrates 100 years of equal voting rights for both men and women. The women’s right to vote was preceded by a long struggle. In this struggle, aesthetic expressions played an important role - in the forms of music, lyrics and pictures. Singing was a way to support the cause and encourage collective action. But the suffragettes could also be commented on and ridiculed in the form of songs. This project examines the function of music and lyrics in the struggle for women’s right to vote in Sweden.
